How to Choose Seat Height

Tall, Medium, and Short help to accommodate different people -- based not on your height, but primarily on your legs' flexibility and secondarily on the size of the desired effect.

So there are two questions.

1

First: how flexible are you? If you're quite inflexible, you probably won't be able to sit on the Siddhasana™ seat, even in the Tall version. Here's how to tell. Sit on a regular chair with knees at 90 degrees; then raise your heel to touch the front of the other shin. How high can you go, comfortably, without raising your knee above the other knee? If you can't go much above your opposite ankle, you might not be able to use Siddhasana™. In my own case, my heel can comfortably touch at about halfway up the opposite shin, and I need the Tall Height Siddhasana™ Meditation Seat. I'm just not flexible enough to use the Low and Medium Height seats. If you can touch your heel two thirds of the way up the opposite shin, you can probably use the Medium Height Siddhasana™ Meditation Seat. And if you can sit on the flat ground in a cross-legged position comfortably for at least a few seconds, then you can probably use the Short Height Siddhasana™ Meditation Seat.

Flexibility is primary: if you aren't flexible enough to go lower, don't get the lower height seat.

But if you have the flexibility, then ask the second question:

2

How much back-curving effect do you want? The taller seat enables and encourages a greater degree of curvature in the lower spine. When the hips are raised relatively higher, your knees, on the floor, are relatively lower and in the same way the more it is possible for your hips to tilt forward. Conversely, the less your back hunches under in sitting, the less of a back-curving effect you might need.

You can also estimate your preferred height by sitting on a yoga block or pile of pillows of 4, 6, and 8 inches in height. Which one feels the most comfortable? The height you like on another support will likely be the preferred height of Siddhasana™ seat for you also.
